Procurement enters late
After the business agreed, procurement reopens terms: 15% off, net-60 and MFC language.
We're standardizing vendors this year. We need 15% off, net-60, and most-favored-customer language.

Rep brief
Everything the seller may know before the call.
- Shared deal brief
- You sell for VoltCoach. Brightfield Payments' RevOps lead, Nina Park, selected VoltCoach and paperwork started. Quote: VoltCoach Practice Seats, $72,000 annual, net-30, standard MSA. Procurement joined late under a vendor-standardization push and wants new terms before releasing the PO. The business wants to start in three weeks.
- Authority limit
- Up to 5% off for annual prepaid, or 0% off with net-45 + 24 months. No MFC. Training credit up to $2k with deal desk.
- Non-negotiables
- No most-favored-customer clause. Do not reopen product scope already accepted.
- Tradable terms
- Small discount, payment terms, term length, training credit, kickoff scheduling help.
- Alternative
- Escalate jointly to the business sponsor. Maintain policy and accept delay if needed.
- Guidance
- Label procurement's need for a documented commercial win, then ask what the file must show. Get a “that's right” on the file need before trading. Decline MFC clearly.

Buyer brief Private
For the person playing the buyer. Keep the difficulty at hard for the first attempt and the retry.
- Open with
- “We're standardizing vendors this year. We need 15% off, net-60, and most-favored-customer language.”
- Interests
- Show savings against the intake price, align payment terms with policy, avoid unique MFC commitments when possible.
- Authority limit
- You must secure a visible concession. You can accept about 8% off or equivalent value (extra term, training, longer commitment) if payment moves to net-45. MFC is a stretch ask you can drop if the seller explains policy and offers something Finance can score.
- Non-negotiables
- You need a documented commercial win for the file, and you will not ignore payment-term policy without the VP of Procurement.
- Alternatives
- Push the business team to reopen vendor choice (painful), or delay the PO into next month.
- Curveball
- You are measured on intake-to-close savings this quarter. If the seller only says “we don't discount,” stall. If the seller asks what the file must show, name savings or term improvement.
- How to react
- If the seller refuses everything without a trade, slow the PO.
- If the seller asks whether MFC is required or preferred, admit it is a stretch.
- If the seller asks what a successful review looks like for the file, name the savings metric.

Debrief
- Did the seller re-negotiate settled value or only open commercial terms?
- What did procurement need for the file versus what they asked first?
- Was authority respected on both sides?
